The U.S. Catholic Church's Annual Day of Giving occurs annually since 2015 on Giving Tuesday - the Tuesday after Thanksgiving

On that day, the main Leaderboards will activate, and we will host a Live Stream to connect with partners and participant ministries from across the country as we Inspire and Celebrate Generosity for our Catholic communities!

How does it work?

Through our technology partner Mightycause, #iGiveCatholic provides a state-of-the-art online giving day platform with built-in fundraising features to diocesan partners and participating parishes, schools, and nonprofit ministries to help them:

  • tell their stories
  • show their progress towards a goal
  • motivate, accept, and celebrate online or offline donations.

All online donations are processed through and receipted immediately by #iGiveCatholic. Offline gifts of cash or check can be made directly to intended participating organization.

Why on Giving Tuesday?

Immediately after Thanksgiving, we have three days that ask us to purchase gifts for loved ones: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Starting in 2012, GivingTuesday has inspired us to shift our focus towards generously sharing our resources with the organizations, causes, and communities that matter to us. GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

For Catholics, generosity and giving have a profound meaning. As we reflect with grateful hearts on how blessed we are, we naturally want to give back to God from our deep sense of gratitude. The goal of of this giving day is to inspire the Catholic community to come together as faithful stewards and to "Give Back and Give Catholic" on GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to inspiring generosity.

Ok, let's get into the details...

When EXACTLY can donations be accepted?

Online donations may be accepted starting at 12:01 A.M. Eastern time at the start of Advanced Giving on November 17, 2025 and will continue to be collected and applied to campaign totals through 11:59 P.M. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Advanced gifts will be charged at the time of donation and credited to the participating organization's total immediately, though some giving day features do not appear until the giving day, GivingTuesday. On December 10, #iGiveCatholic will freeze all totals to start calculating final global campaign stats.

However, organizations can continue to collect and receive online donations through their #iGiveCatholic fundraising page year-round -- they just won't count toward the giving day total if recorded after Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

Do I have to give online to participate?

Not at all! #iGiveCatholic wants to Inspire and Celebrate Generosity which can be expressed in many ways. We encourage participating organizations to accept and record offline gifts of cash and check so they can be equally celebrated through this campaign. We also invite organizations to list their volunteer opportunities and live events so you can also share your time and talents through #iGiveCatholic!

What forms of payment do you accept online?

Online donations may be made by ACH bank wire ($100 or more) or Credit Card ($10 or more) including via Gpay, ApplePay, Venmo and Paypal. Associated transaction fees are listed and described in the infographic below.

Donors may also use the online donation process to designate funds from their Donor Advised Fund (DAF), IRA Distribution or Stock Portfolio to generate an immediate offline donation record towards the fundraising total of any organization participating in the campaign. The transaction will trigger an email to 1. the donor, 2. the beneficiary organization, and 3. the fund manager indicated by the donor to record the distribution request. There are no transaction fees associated with using #iGiveCatholic to initiate distributions from outside funds.

Why are there fees assessed on online donations?

#iGiveCatholic on GivingTuesday is a fundraiser for your organization, and there are expenses as there are with any other fundraiser held in person such as a dinner, gala, etc. The convenience of donating through a giving day platform with special features and extra security measures incurs fees. These online transaction fees contribute to the cost of secure financial transactions, responsive tech support, customizable marketing materials, tailored training, one-on-one support and other behind the scenes components enabling your chosen ministry to focus their time and effort on their mission. #iGiveCatholic is committed to keeping these fees as low as possible and has twice reduced these fees to lower their impact on donors and participating organizations.

To learn more about each specific transaction fee, please see the infographic below.

More For Organizations

Check out our PARTNER page on this website to see a list of all active #iGiveCatholic partners.

Click the crest or logo to be directed to that partner's home page where you will find contact information for the local administrator who can answer questions specific to your diocese or group.

Each participating organization must enter their banking information your #iGiveCatholic dashboard. This will allow us to pay you for the donations we collect on your behalf. #iGiveCatholic does not have the capacity to cut and mail any checks to participants. You must enter your bank information to be paid electronically.

#iGiveCatholic will collect all online donations from the start of Advanced Giving on November 17 through 11:59 P.M. on December 9 and transmit individual ACH electronic deposits to each participating ministry for the total due (gross donations net processing fees not covered by donors) before Christmas. Online donations received after December 9 will be transmitted by ACH each month after which there was donation activity (i.e. mid-month ACH in January for donations received December 10-31). You can download a report of individual donations included in a specific payout period through your #iGiveCatholic dashboard. CLICK HERE for a support article.

*NOTE that some dioceses or foundations choose to collect on behalf of their member ministries to distribute locally. We have asked that our partners clarify whether they will distribute your total to you or if you should expect the ACH directly from #iGiveCatholic. If you have any questions, please ask your local #iGiveCatholic administrator who is listed on your group or diocese's home page.

You DO NOT need to send a tax receipt to your ONLINE donors since #iGiveCatholic sends emailed tax receipts following each transaction. HOWEVER, a tax receipt is not a thank you. We highly recommend that you send a personal thank you message to each donor within one week of receiving their donation. That thank you can be by phone, email or postal mail but the sooner you send it, the better!

You DO need to send tax receipts to each OFFLINE donor since #iGiveCatholic did not process the gift and therefore cannot send a tax receipt for it.

While not required, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that all participating organizations attend both the Getting Ready webinar in late August as well as the Final Steps webinar in mid-November to learn how to best use the online platform and all available resources. You can register for upcoming webinars and find recordings and slide decks for past webinars on our TRAININGS page.

No way. #iGiveCatholic will email an immediate receipt to all donors after each online transaction and will ask them to complete an online survey about their experience. That's it. We will never solicit your donors nor will we share your donor information with outside third parties.

More For Donors

#iGiveCatholic will email a receipt to all online donors immediately after a transaction has been completed. If you don't see the emailed receipt, check your junk or spam folder.

If you made a gift offline via check or cash, the receipt must come directly from the beneficiary organization.

Yes! You can give to up to 200 participating ministries in a single transaction, no matter their group or diocese affiliation! You will receive a single receipt with a breakdown of each gift to each designated ministry.

No. #iGiveCatholic was designed to generate NEW, ONE-TIME donations. Because we email tax receipts for all online donations, those gifts must be fully tax-deductible and not in exchange for any goods or services you expect to receive in return.

No. #iGiveCatholic online donations are considered unrestricted gifts to the organization. Organizations may publicly designate a specific project or fund for their campaign, but they are not required to apply all donations to any specific purpose.

Yes, thank you for asking! To sponsor a diocesan campaign, contact your local #iGiveCatholic administrator who will be listed on the partner page (click on the logo of your diocese in the PARTNER DIRECTORY to be directed to their home page).
