Giving Day

Dec 1, 2026

The U.S. Catholic Church's Annual Day of Giving occurs annually since 2015 on Giving Tuesday -- the Tuesday after Thanksgiving

On that day, the main Leaderboards will activate, and we will host a Live Stream to connect with partners and participant ministries from across the country as we Inspire and Celebrate Generosity for our Catholic communities!

Why on Giving Tuesday?

Block background image

Immediately after Thanksgiving, we have three days that ask us to purchase gifts for loved ones: Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Starting in 2012, GivingTuesday has inspired us to shift our focus towards generously sharing our resources with the organizations, causes, and communities that matter to us. GivingTuesday is now an independent nonprofit and a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

For Catholics, generosity and giving have a profound meaning. As we reflect with grateful hearts on how blessed we are, we naturally want to give back to God from our deep sense of gratitude. The goal of of this giving day is to inspire the Catholic community to come together as faithful stewards and to "Give Thanks, Give Back and Give Catholic" on GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to inspiring generosity.

  • Proclaim Good Works Achieved through Mission
  • Show Progress Towards a Goal

Haven't answered your question yet?

Ok, let's get into the details...

When EXACTLY can donations be accepted?

#iGiveCatholic is now a YEAR-ROUND online giving platform, so donations will be accepted now and in perpetuity!

However, only donations recorded between the start of Advanced Giving through 11:59 P.M. on the last day of the campaign will be included in giving day totals. (Scroll above to see exact campaign dates for each of our giving days.) Advanced gifts will be charged at the time of donation and credited to the participating organization's total immediately.

Organizations can continue to collect and receive online donations through their #iGiveCatholic fundraising page year-round -- they just won't affect their leaderboard standing or apply toward eligible prizes if recorded outside of their respective giving day window.

Do I have to give online to participate?

Not at all! #iGiveCatholic wants to Inspire and Celebrate Generosity which can be expressed in many ways. We encourage participating organizations to accept and record offline gifts of cash and check so they can be equally celebrated through this campaign. These gifts MUST be recorded within the official campaign dates to be included in leaderboards and prizes. We also invite organizations to list their volunteer opportunities and live events so you can also share your time and talents through #iGiveCatholic!

What forms of payment do you accept online?

Online donations may be made by ACH bank wire ($25 or more) or Credit Card ($10 or more) including via Gpay, ApplePay, Venmo and Paypal. Associated transaction fees are listed and described in the infographic below.

Donors may also use the online donation process to designate funds from their Donor Advised Fund (DAF) or IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to generate an immediate offline donation record towards the fundraising total of any organization participating in the campaign. The transaction will trigger an email to 1. the donor, 2. the beneficiary organization, and 3. the fund manager indicated by the donor to fulfill the distribution request. There are no transaction fees associated with using #iGiveCatholic to initiate distributions from outside funds.

Why are there fees assessed on online donations?

Giving days are fundraisers for participating organizations, and there are expenses as there are with any other fundraiser held in person such as a dinner, gala, etc. The convenience of donating through a giving day platform with special features and extra security measures incurs fees. These online transaction fees contribute to the expense of secure financial transactions, responsive tech support, customizable marketing materials, tailored training, one-on-one support and other behind the scenes components enabling your chosen ministry to focus their time and effort on their mission.

Donors have the option -- and are encouraged -- to cover the fees for their recipient organization(s). In fact, over 94% of #iGiveCatholic donors paid the transaction fees on their donations in the 2025 giving day!

To learn more about each specific transaction fee, please see the infographic below.
