Black Catholic Messenger is an online nonprofit media publication serving the nation’s African-American Catholics and their allies. We are dedicated to Black Catholicism in the United States and the voices, figures, history, and culture(s) that form it. Our content includes news coverage, interviews, op-eds, upcoming events, reviews, video content, live video events, and more.

We solicit stories and other content from contributors across the country, and currently have a small team of our president and editor, a board of directors, contracted writers, and volunteers. We are headquartered in Washington, DC, and cover stories nationally.

We see ourselves as a part of the Black press as well as Catholic media, spanning a chasm not crossed in daily journalism for roughly 100 years—beginning with Daniel Rudd’s “American Catholic Tribune” in the late 19th century. We aim to continue and fulfill his mission to “give the great Catholic Church a hearing” among African Americans, as well as to call the Church to a more robust recognition of African Americans and to the elimination of racism in the Church at all levels.
