$50,000 Goal

Parking is a problem - but we have a plan.

On average, 3,300 Massgoers visit the Cathedral each Sunday. They have to compete for the 350 parking spaces in our parking deck, or make their own parking on the streets near campus. It makes Sunday a hassle for parishioners and our neighbors in Buckhead, when it should be a respite. Families already worrying about running late and trying to wrestle kids into pews shouldn't have to worry if there's a space for them when they arrive.

Right now, the Cathedral doesn't have a way to expand its parking. A residential neighborhood borders us on one side, and residential towers border us on the other. We do, though, have partners in the neighborhood willing to share.

This Giving Tuesday, we aim to double our parking options for Sunday Massgoers. We’re raising funds to lease several neighborhood parking lots to ease the pain on our parishioners and our neighbors.

The Lots

Second-Ponce Baptist

Our friends at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, next door to the Cathedral, have offered to lease us their parking lot at the corner of East Wesley Drive and West Bolling Road. With 87 parking spaces, this lot is just over 100 yards from the Hyland Center. It's ideal for families visiting the Cathedral to attend the 10:30 AM Sunday Mass in the gym.

2827 Peachtree

This public parking deck behind Fellini's Pizza is the closest public parking deck to the Cathedral, 600 yards away from the Cathedral entrance. They have offered dedicated parking spaces for parishioners to use on Sundays.

The Cost

We're raising $50,000 to cover the costs of leasing these lots from December 2025-December 2026. The lot at Second-Ponce will cost $10,000. The deck at 2827 Peachtree will cost $40,000. These costs also include a private security officer assisting with foot traffic and pedestrian safety while crossing.

Who We Are

The Cathedral of Christ the King was established in 1936, just as the country descended into the Great Depression. The parish took as its motto, "Christus Vincit, Christus Regnat, Christus Imperat," - Christ is Victorious, Christ Reigns and Christ Commands. These words summarize the Church's patronage under the banner of Christ as King.

The parish's first Mass was celebrated on August 15, 1936, in celebration of the Feast of the Assumption. There were about 250 families at the time; today, over 6,000 families are registered members of the parish. It was established as a co-Cathedral of the Diocese of Savannah, which spanned the State of Georgia, as a partner parish to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah.

In 1956, the Diocese of Atlanta was created, and Christ the King was raised to the status of Cathedral.

Today, the Cathedral family consists of well over 12,000 registered parishioners, a preschool, a K-8th grade school, and dozens of ministries dedicated to knowing, loving, and serving as Jesus did.
