#iGiveCatholic 2025 - Security Upgrades
In 2014, CCS installed security doors on both sides of the front lobby, ensuring that the classroom wings could only be accessed by use of a swipe card (for faculty and staff) or by being buzzed in by the receptionist. Card readers for exterior doors began to be installed with the STEAM Wing construction in 2015. This technology, like all tech, is aging, and needs some updates and upgrades. The upgraded door access controls would include both video and intercom capabilities at exterior doors, notification of doors that are open, and would add a new layer of security. Video monitors allowing staff to see who is at the exterior doors would be placed at the front reception desk, as well as the desk in the front office, giving the staff a constant visual presence. Faculty and staff will still be able to use their swipe cards to enter and exit.
Our two-way radio system, used by all members of the administration, as well as hall leaders and those on lunch/recess duty, is also aging. Radios are used for daily communication, as well as in the event of an emergency. The plan is to replace the large, bulky radios with a smaller, sleeker model. This new, licensed radio system includes a repeater, which will ensure consistent, full coverage of the building and grounds.
Our Story
Charlottesville Catholic School's story is one of strength, dedication, and perseverance; and our enrollment numbers this year are at an all-time high!
We started with humble beginnings in 1994 when a small group of parents desired a Catholic school that would provide a community of faith for their children that supported the values they were instilling at home. With the support of Bishop Walter Sullivan and the Office of Catholic Schools, Sister Susan Mudd, O.S.U. became the first principal of Charlottesville Catholic School that would temporarily be located at Congregation Beth Israel. After two years at Congregation Beth Israel and a few years at ACAC at Four Seasons, our permanent home became a reality. Bishop Sullivan presided at the dedication of our current location on September 15, 2001.
The School continued to grow by building the St. Dunstan's Chapel in 2002 and completing the build-out of a multipurpose building and the William O. Bourke Library in 2003. In 2016 the STEAM wing was built. With the passion and drive of the founding families and the continued fortitude of the leaders that followed, Charlottesville Catholic School lives its mission by being a school that nurtures students' God-given gifts in a community rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the traditions of the Catholic Church.
Charlottesville Catholic School is a fully-accredited, licensed, nationally recognized school offering Junior Kindergarten through eighth grade, and is welcoming to all faiths. We are a regional Catholic School under the auspices of the Diocese of Richmond, serving the families of Charlottesville, Virginia and the surrounding counties of Central Virginia. We value excellence in education, as evidenced by our standardized testing scores ranking among the highest in the country.
In 2023, we received the National Blue Ribbon Award (for the third time) and were the 2023 Winner of Charlottesville's Finest for Best Preschool, Best Elementary School and Best Middle School. We continue to operate under the belief that nurturing Christian values of faith and community, along with excellence in education, fosters character, leadership development, and citizenship.
