Who we are

Christ is at the center of all we do at FranU. Inspired by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady to be a living witness to Jesus Christ and the Gospel message, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University remains in communion with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

FranU awards doctorate, master’s, baccalaureate, and associate degrees. We are a small, Catholic, not-for-profit institution with a healthcare emphasis. The University offers programs in nursing, health sciences, humanities, behavioral sciences, and natural sciences. We are proud to offer a Bachelor of Arts in Theology, designed to educate and form servant leaders for a wide range of church ministry roles. Students called to ministry, already serving in mission-oriented positions, or seeking to deepen their understanding of Christian, Catholic, and Franciscan theological traditions enroll in this program, which integrates servant leadership, theological inquiry, and dialogue.

St. Stephen Scholarship in Theology

To support these future leaders, FranU offers the St. Stephen Scholarship in Theology, named in honor of its founding funders—deacons formed at FranU who studied alongside lay theology students. These deacons recognized the passion and commitment of their classmates and wanted to help reduce financial barriers for those dedicating their lives to ministry.

Inspired by the witness of St. Stephen, the Church’s first deacon and a model of courageous faith and devoted service, the scholarship specifically supports lay students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Theology. Whether they are discerning a vocation, actively serving in ministry, or seeking deeper theological formation, the recipient of the St. Stephen Scholarship in Theology is empowered to follow their calling with greater financial support. The scholarship reflects the spirit of collaboration and generosity that began in FranU classrooms, where ordained deacons and lay students learned side by side, united in their mission to serve the Church and the world.
