Who Are the Missionaries of Africa?

The Missionaries of Africa — also known as the White Fathers — are the largest religious congregation in the Catholic Church devoted entirely to the people of Africa. Founded in 1868 by Cardinal Charles Lavigerie, they have spent more than 150 years living and working among African communities — sharing Christ’s love through presence, dialogue, and service. Our missionaries form future priests and Church leaders, support education and healthcare, promote justice and peace, and strengthen local communities of faith.
