More Than a Roof: Preserving a Place that Serves Our Community.
St. Bartholomew Church has been more than a building in Sharpsville. It has been a home, a gathering place, and a source of faith and support for generations.
For more than 150 years, St. Bartholomew has been part of the story of Sharpsville and the Shenango Valley, and has stood as a pillar of hope and faith the greater Sharpsville community. Generations of families have walked through its doors for Sunday Mass, baptisms, First Communions, confirmations, weddings, funerals, celebrations, and moments when they simply needed a place to pray.
But the story of St. Bartholomew's extends beyond what happens inside the sanctuary.
The Church and its buildings have provided spaces where people come together. Parish meals and gatherings bring neighbors and families together around a common table. The church hall and parish facilities provide places for fellowship, celebrations, meetings, and community activities. Through its ministries and outreach- including its food pantry and clothing closet- St. Bartholomew's has also been a place where practical needs are met and people are reminded that they are not alone.
That is why replacing the roof is about so much more than repairing a roof.
It is about protecting the place underneath it.
A roof may not be the most visible or glamorous part of a church, but it is one of the most important. It protects the sanctuary, the parish facilities, the memories held within those walls, and the ability of the parish to continue serving people in the years ahead.
For generations, the people of St. Bartholomew's have sacrificed to build, maintain, and preserve this parish. The church itself was built through the commitment and generosity of people who understood that they were creating something that would outlast their generation. Historical accounts of St. Bartholomew describe the church as one of Sharpsville's significant landmarks and note that its construction began in 1908 and took more than a decade to complete.
Now it is our turn to carry that responsibility forward.
We are asking parishioners, former parishioners, families, friends, neighbors, and members of the greater Sharpsville community to help us raise the money necessary to replace the church roof.
Perhaps you were baptized at St. Bartholomew's.
Perhaps you received your First Holy Communion or confirmation here.
Perhaps you were married here- or celebrated the marriage of your parents, children, or grandchildren.
Perhaps you have attended a funeral here and found comfort during one of life's hardest moments.
Perhaps you have shared a meal in the parish hall, attended a fundraiser, volunteered at an event, received help through the food pantry, or simply walked through the doors when you needed a place to feel at home.
Every one of those memories is part of what we are trying to protect.
The roof protects the place where a child is welcomed into the faith.
It protects the place where families gather to celebrate.
It protects the place where people mourn and find comfort.
It protects the place where volunteers work to help their neighbors.
It protects the place where generations have prayed.
And it protects the possibility of all the memories that have yet to be made.
Help Us Keep the Roof Over Our Community.
The cost of replacing a church roof is significant, and we cannot do it alone.
We are asking everyone who has been touched by St. Bartholomew's- whether recently or many decades ago- to consider making a contribution.
No gift is too small.
And perhaps most importantly, every gift is a reminder that this place matters to the people who call Sharpsville home.
When many people give what they can, small acts of generosity become something much larger.
We Are Not Just Replacing a Roof. We are preserving a legacy.
We are preserving a place where generations have worshipped.
We are preserving a place where families have celebrated and grieved together.
We are preserving a place that continues to reach beyond its walls to serve people in need.
And we are preserving a place so that the next generation can walk through those doors and create memories of their own.
The people who built St. Bartholomew's could not have known exactly what the future would hold. They simply believed that their church was worth building and worth sacrificing for.
Today we have the opportunity to make the same statement.
Let's come together as a parish and a community to protect what generations before us worked so hard to build.
Let's make sure that St. Bartholomew Church continues to stand as a place of faith, fellowship, service, and community for generations to come.
Give what you can. Share our campaign. Tell someone what St. Bartholomew's has meant to you.
Because this isn't just about a roof.
It's about protecting everything underneath it. Our past, serving our present, and preserving our future.
It's about keeping the doors of St. Bartholomew's open for the generations still to come.
