$100,000 Goal

Project Overview:

The building of St. Joseph Catholic Church concluded in 1892.  Every five to six years the brick and wooden bell tower needs repair due to its design and function.  A more permanent solution is needed but is very costly.  If this goal is achieved every year for the next five to six years, a virtually maintenance-free structure would be possible.

St. Joseph Church, Crestline History:

Fr. George Brennan from Wooster celebrated Mass in Crestline’s private homes from 1854 to 1856.  Then Fr. Michael O’Neil succeeded him and served the settlers until 1859.  In 1861, Fr. Joseph Gallagher of Mansfield took charge of the area and Crestline’s congregation constructed a frame chapel in honor of St. Joseph.  During the years of 1888-1892 the present church building was constructed of brick and stone.

In 1908 the school/convent was built and now houses our school offices and elementary school -- preschool through 8th grade.

Today, St. Joseph Parish consists of over 250 families with Fr. Jeffery Smith as pastor.
