The Society for the Propagation of the Faith

In each generation, certain men and women hear the call of Christ to the special missionary vocation, to make themselves totally available to be sent to announce the Gospel and to serve the poor, perhaps in Southeast Asia, in the mountains of Bolivia in South America, in Sudan in Africa. But the task of spreading the faith belongs to all of us. As Pope Benedict XVI has stated: “The community of believers must be the bearer of the light of the Gospel… Each baptized person must feel called to go, as envoys of Christ… to take to all the light of Christ’s message.”

Each of us must be missionaries, therefore, to the best of our ability. Our ability becomes far-reaching (in fact, it reaches “to the ends of the earth”) as we commit ourselves to the worldwide mission of Jesus in prayer, in personal sacrifice and in financial help through the Propagation of the Faith.

The Propagation of the Faith is the central means of the Church to encourage prayer for the missionary task and to gather support for the pastoral and evangelizing needs of more than 1,150 dioceses throughout the Missions. This assistance helps those who bring the Gospel to the poor in mission stations, schools, clinics, among families, the elderly, young people, orphans, refugees.

Today, we are asked to participate more intensely in the missionary task by committing ourselves to daily prayer and regular sacrifice through the Propagation of the Faith. Please make this commitment today —and every day.
