Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church

Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. Matthew 7:24-25

In the spirit of sustainability, Ascension of Our Lord continues the pursuit of building the Named Storm Deductible Fund (NSD). Once fully funded, the money will help us avoid a financial burden in the event of damage from another named storm. The plan is multi-faceted and includes a pledge drive from our parishioners which was presented in October and fundraising through the #iGiveCatholic Campaign. 

The current hurricane is deductible to $553,000. We currently have $200,000 in our NSD Savings account leaving us with a balance of $353,000. It is our hope that this year’s #iGiveCatholic Campaign coupled with the pledges of our parishioners, we will meet our goal within three years.  

Our benefactors have been extremely generous to us over the years. In fact, last year, the iGiveCatholic campaign raised over $50K! Can my team and I count on your support once again? 

The 2025 #iGiveCatholic Campaign begins on Monday, November 17, and ends on #GivingTuesday, December 2, 2025. We hope to hear from you during this time!

Who We Are

Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church is located in LaPlace, LA.

Statement of Faith
Ascension of Our Lord is a Catholic Church, in full union with the Church in Rome. We are dedicated to, and are under the "Authority of our Holy Father, and therefore, accept and embrace all of the teachings of the Magisterium of the Church". We invite all to worship with us in the confidence of knowing that our Church and doctrines were established by God through Jesus Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit and safeguarded by His Church, which is One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. (Established July 1979)

A Brief History of Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in LaPlace, LA
AOL was carved out of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Ascension of Our Lord was officially established on July 2, 1979 by Archbishop Hannan with the appointment of Rev. Benjamin Piovan as its founding Pastor.

What this Parish has become is all due to the guidance, faith, dedication and hard work of Father Benny. On November 17, 2006, we bid farewell to Father Benny as he retired to pursue his dream of missionary work in Saltillo, Mexico. Rev. Walter J. Austin filled his position as Pastor. Sadly Fr. Benny passed away on August 4th, 2014.

At AOL we are dedicated to offering an atmosphere of hospitality and welcome to people of all backgrounds and cultures as the people of God. Encountering Jesus, Witnessing with Joy as we continue to grow as a community of faith in the River Parishes.
