The Historic First Catholic Church of Jacksonville
Where people come to encounter God.
Donde la gente viene a encontrarse con Dios
The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception is a historic Catholic church in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, and represents Jacksonville's oldest Catholic congregation. The current building, dating to 1910, was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1992 and was named a minor basilica in 2013.
In 1854 the Immaculate Conception Church was formally established as a parish. During the Civil War, Union soldiers burned the Church. Following the war, the growing Catholic community built another Church on the same site and dedicated it in 1871. It was lost to the Great Jacksonville Fire of 1901.
Today the Basilica serves a community of close to 1,000 active families, with a Hispanic community of over 200 families.
The Basilica asks for the help of the faithful once more. Your generous gifts will help to preserve and maintain this sacred space for generations to come.
