What We Do: Bridging the Gap

Every day, more families across our communities are being pushed to the edge. The cost of living keeps climbing — groceries, rent, gas, and medical bills - while the job market remains tough. For those already living paycheck to paycheck, one unexpected crisis can unravel everything they’ve worked so hard to build. Behind every statistic is a person, a story, a family doing their best to hold on.

Our Bridging the Gap program provides immediate relief for families and individuals in crisis — connecting them with case management, financial assistance, and vital resources that help them find stability again.  Incorporated in the program is Mary’s Closet, our in-house resource center stocked with essential items like hygiene products and cleaning supplies — the basics that help maintain dignity and daily life.

Audrey’s Story: “I’ve always worked. I’ve always provided.”

Audrey has worked all her life. Her job was more than a paycheck — it was her pride and her way to care for her loved ones. She managed a local store, her son worked nearby, and though her husband suffered a stroke that left him unable to work, they found ways to make it all work together.

Then, with one week’s notice, Audrey’s store closed. She lost her job and her health benefits. Days later, her son was laid off, too. Suddenly, this strong, self-reliant woman found herself staring at bills she couldn’t pay, and a future she couldn’t see clearly anymore.

 The stress was crushing.

That’s when she reached out to Catholic Charities. She was met with compassion, understanding, and a plan. We helped her bridge the gap — providing critical support until her family could regain their footing.  Today, Audrey is working again, her family is stable, and she feels something she thought she had lost: hope.

That’s what your support does. It restores hope.

Grace’s Story: Family — and Faith — Expanded Overnight

Grace is a hardworking mother of three. When her sister’s children needed a place to go, she didn’t hesitate — she opened her door and her heart to her three nephews, determined to keep them together as a family.    Overnight, her household doubled. Her expenses did too.

Grace was doing her best, but it was hard — feeding six growing children, keeping the lights on, and making sure everyone had what they needed. Through your generosity, Catholic Charities was able to help Grace with utilities, provide emergency toiletries and household necessities through Mary’s Closet, and connect her to community partners for long-term stability.

Because of donors like you, six children stayed together in the home of someone who loves them.

Larry’s Story: Finding Light Again

Larry lives alone and has faced more than his share of challenges — health issues, job instability, and the weight of isolation. When his car broke down, he faced an impossible choice: pay for costly repairs or keep up with his bills.  He fell behind. The darkness began to close in again.

Then Larry was referred to Catholic Charities. We helped him pay his utility bills, gave him cleaning and hygiene supplies from Mary’s Closet, and provided bus vouchers so he could keep getting to work.

Today, he’s back on his feet. He’s working. He’s hopeful. Because someone like you cared enough to help.

Your Story: Called to Be the Good Samaritan

As people of faith and compassion, we are called to see those in need — not to walk past them, but to walk with them. To give what we can. To be the helping hand that lifts another up.

Be the reason someone feels hope again.  Be Catholic. Do Good. Give today.
