Mission Statement
The Cor Christi Catholic Center exists to glorify God, evangelize, and minister to the spiritual needs of the Washburn Community in accordance with the mission of the Catholic Church.
Vision Statement
The Cor Christi Catholic Center is a community of disciples who journey alongside one another. Our goal is to provide a welcoming and joyful environment to all as we unite in prayer, dive into God’s word, frequent the sacraments, serve others, increase our faith, and build genuine, lasting friendships.
This October we celebrated 55 years of ministry to the Catholic students, faculty and staff of Washburn University by holding our first Cor Christi Evening of Hope. Our goal, in order to bring FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Student) to Cor Christi Catholic Center at Washburn University is $70,000. We achieved more than we hoped, from our initial Evening of Hope, it was an overwhelming success thanks to our sponsors, guests, donors, and volunteers. We met our match of $25,000, and there is still work to be done. We are looking for reoccurring monthly donors to ensure our ability to pay for FOCUS each year.
If we can get 235 people to donate $25 a month for 3 years, we achieve our goal.
If we can get 117 people to donate $50 a month for 3 years, we achieve our goal.
Please help us achieve our goal by donating to igive catholic or becoming a monthly donor at donate.
Our kickoff Mass in August was another full house with 60 students in attendance. We continue to grow and are excited to serve our students and community members. Our Mission and Vision, requires more funding to be obtained. We are in need of a part-time development director, an increase to our bookkeeper's hours and our hopes for the future are to have 4 FOCUS missionaries on staff. Archbishop Emeritus Naumann gave his approval to have FOCUS missionaries in March of 2025.
Cor Christi holds weekly faith formation and fellowship groups. On Sundays, the sacraments of reconciliation and mass are available. Afterwards, a light meal is provided by many gracious volunteers. Breaking bread together has strengthened trust among us and allows for authentic conversation and lasting friendships to form. We currently have a men's group, a women's group, a weekly community rosary, weekly adoration, and a group that meets to engage in additional faith formation beyond what's provided to all students.
Our 10th Delectus retreat was held on November 7th and 8th at Prairie Star Ranch. This is a student led retreat for Cor Christi students. We had 25 students participate in our retreat, where they learned about how they are Chosen by God and how knowing yourself, building a relationship with God and having a community to support you on your faith journey is important. Here are a few things students had to say about the retreat:
In January some students are planning to attend the national SEEK26 in Denver. SEEK is a Catholic Conference for College students, where they have the opportunities to hear a number of speakers, engage in the sacraments, deepen there faith, deepen friendships and network with many religious and catholic vendors. While students seek out funding from Washburn's student government, they also put on fundraisers to help pay for the cost. Retreats are often the place where students have conversions of heart, which lead them closer to Christ!
Be the Heart of Christ today, by giving a gift to Cor Christi Catholic Center at Washburn University! Thank you in advance for your generosity!
