Diocese of Erie Vocation Office

The mission of the Diocese of Erie Vocation Office is to help young men and women discern their special calling from God. If a woman feels that tugging of the heart and is drawn to consecrated life, then she is directed to a religious order that matches her interests and aligns with what she perceives is her vocation. There the vocation director of that particular religious order can then assist the young woman to discern further her vocation. A young man who senses a call to priesthood is put in contact with the Director of Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Erie who then works directly with the young man to assist him with his discernment. If appropriate, the young man begins the application process for acceptance as a seminarian for the Diocese of Erie.

Your donation supports the various activities and programs that promote vocations in the Diocese of Erie and helps with the discernment process. These include conferences, Discernment Retreats, Quo Vadis Days, St. Andrew Dinners, vocation literature, required vocation discernment testing, and many other programs and activities the encourage and promote religious vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.

Everyone is encouraged to pray for vocations and to promote and support vocations among the people they encounter. Everyone has the universal vocation or call to holiness. However, some are called to a special vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life. If you know such a person that you just know has a religious vocation, do not be afraid to ask or say: "Have you ever thought of becoming a priest/religious sister?" "I think you would be a great priest/religious sister. Please consider it." "I see in you the qualities that would make for a great priest/religious sister." God works through our words of encouragement, invitation, and challenge to reach the heart of that young man or woman who has a religious vocation. Plant those words as seeds in the heart of that special holy young man or woman and let God do the rest.
