Heritage (Purification Heritage Center)

Heritage is a sacred destination welcoming all to seek, find, and renew faith. Historic Properties, prayer gardens, and new retreat accommodations provide a peaceful escape that deepens relationships, evangelizes, and strengthens His Church.

A gift to Heritage will:

• Sponsor our Ministry and Service Ambassador program participants.  These young people are the future of our Church!!! (total cost of $160,000 for a full year internship for four young adults).
• Sponsor clergy for "desert days" on the retreat property, to renew their relationship with Christ and His Church (total of $75,000 will sponsor 125 priests and religious for 2026).
• Finish our project to dignify the historic Purification Cemetery with expansion of community spaces, area appropriate landscaping and beautifying entrances to the church and parking area (total cost $65,000).
• Help revitalize the interior of the Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary (ca.1883), Georgia's oldest Catholic Congregation (total cost estimated at $300,000).
• Help kick-start the Sustainable Farm Project! ($10,000)

Who We Are

Purification Heritage Center is a sacred place to seek, find, and renew faith in the cradle of Catholicism in the State of Georgia. Located in Taliaferro County, the Center oversees the oldest Catholic settlement in the state, the oldest Catholic cemetery in the state (circa 1790) listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the historic Church of the Purification. In addition to coordinating on-going renovation and upkeep of the church and original cemetery, PHC hosts retreats and walking pilgrimages for guests who visit this sacred area. Our mission is to provide a welcoming Catholic environment that serves local and faith communities through beauty, peace, and historical connection.
