Holy Cross Catholic Church

For the past 2 years, Holy Cross Catholic Church has been committed to supporting and assisting 2 families as well as the Breathitt County Headstart Preschool program by inviting them to take up emergency residence in our church after the 2022 Flood. The families are now in long term recovery and have moved into their own home. Headstart will be moving into their own building in Oct. and we are reclaiming our space and are so excited to begin new ministries to our Breathitt county community. We need classroom furniture and supplies to begin a youth group as well as equipment for the playground. We will be starting a Faith Sharing Group for Women as well as a Food Distribution to single parent households. We need funds to support these needed ministries in our area. Thank you for your kind gift! It is time for us to move beyond the 22 Flood to a bright future for everyone. 

Who We Are

Holy Cross is a small faith community nestled in the hills of Jackson, Kentucky. With fewer than 30 parishioners in Breathitt County, we are a vibrant parish where all are called into mission and ministry. As a community we gather as a family to pray and grow as missionary disciples. Holy Cross serves the wider community through evangelization efforts, outreach ministries, and collaboration with institutional and ecumenical partners.

Each year a wide variety of Catholics come into this parish to experience God through the land and people of this Breathitt County. From student groups to visiting parishes, Holy Cross hosts Mission Encounter Retreats throughout the year, focusing on spiritual renewal, service, and the universal call to mission and holiness.

The missionary efforts of Holy Cross not only serve to strengthen the Church and its members but have also proven to be essential in the health and well-being of the larger Breathitt County community. Holy Cross is a pillar in the community, working with other agencies to help meet the basic needs of the community. For example, last year, in collaboration with our partners in mission, the community of Holy Cross was able to ensure that every child at the local elementary school had socks and boots for the winter.

Holy Cross relies completely on the support of donors, partners-in-mission, to ensure a Catholic presence in Breathitt County. From keeping the lights on to critical outreach to the community, the mission of Holy Cross is sustained by the generosity of God and God's people.
