Holy Ghost Catholic Church has a unique place in the history of the Catholic Church in the US, for it was the largest African American Catholic parish in the USA sometime in the past. Even now, Holy Ghost is one of the largest African American Catholic parishes in the USA and the largest African American parish in the Diocese of Lafayette, LA. We have about 2400 registered families in the parish. We are an active and vibrant parish in the city of Opelousas, LA. The Parish was established in 1920 by the Holy Ghost Fathers. Holy Ghost parish, for over 100 years, has been at the center of Catholic faith in the city of Opelousas. Thanks to the generosity, commitment, and dedication of our faithful parishioners, both past and present, Holy Ghost has always been a vibrant presence in the community reaching out to everyone and inviting All to Worship together and Give Glory to the Lord. We are a welcoming parish community and are committed to sharing the Good News with everyone. All are Welcome to Holy Ghost Catholic Church.

We are also very proud to have one of the best facilities (Parish Life Center) for community activities, gatherings and fellowship in the city. Thanks to the unwavering support and generosity of our parishioners we were able to build this beautiful facility. Their support to the parish has always been outstanding. Our loan towards PLC is little over $1,000,000.00. Currently we make a payment of $15,000.00/month toward the loan. Through the 'iGiveCatholic' campaign we hope to raise 4 months ($60,000.00) of loan payments. Your generous support and donation will be a great blessing and help us to pay off the loan faster. This will enable us to focus on other various ministries and needs of the parish.
