Manna House: 35 Years of Compassion and Community
Since opening our doors on May 1, 1990, Manna House has been a place of nourishment, dignity, and hope for people of all ages and backgrounds. For 35 years, we’ve served hot, nutritious meals 365 days a year in a clean, welcoming environment—no questions asked. While many of our patrons are experiencing homelessness, others are simply facing hard times: living on limited incomes, managing high medical expenses, or recovering from the loss of a paycheck. The truth is, any one of us could be just one life event away from needing a place like Manna House.
🍽️ A Meal for Anyone in Need
Our founder, Father Gerard Foley, believed that no man, woman, or child should ever feel the pangs of hunger. His vision was simple: if you can make it to Manna House, you will be fed. That promise continues today. In response to rising food insecurity and economic hardship, we now serve an average of 9,875 meals each month to men, women, and children in our community. In 2024 alone, we served 110,308 meals—for many, it was their only meal of the day. As one guest recently shared, “Hunger will make desperate people do desperate things.” At Manna House, we believe that feeding people is not just charity—it’s a vital service.
🚗 Reaching Further: The Expanded Meals Program
To serve those who cannot reach us, we launched the Expanded Meals Program in June 2021, with five distribution points:
- St. Juliana Catholic Church
- Christian Love Baptist Church
- Wardville Community Church (Pineville)
- New Birth Fellowship Church
This outreach ensures that even those without transportation can receive a hot meal.
🙌 Powered by Volunteers, Fueled by Generosity
Feeding hundreds of people every day takes a village. It requires 6–8 volunteers daily, including weekends and holidays, each giving 4–6 hours to prepare, serve, and clean. Manna House receives no government funding—we exist solely because of the generosity of individuals, churches, and businesses near and far.
The cost to serve one meal is approximately $3.07. Every donation—large or small—makes a difference. Your support allows us to purchase exactly what we need in bulk, reducing waste and maximizing impact.
