Office of Archives

The mission of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux Archives is to collect, organize, preserve, and make available for research historical and vital records, manuscript collections, and related records that document the Catholic experience and reflect the work of the Church within the boundaries of the Houma-Thibodaux diocese. 

In Spring 2023, the Office of Archives and Records for the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux used funds from a donation to digitize 86 U-matic tapes featuring Bishop Boudreaux’s Installation Mass, 25th Diocesan Anniversary Mass, French rosaries, and his Funeral Mass. These digitized U-Matic tapes were made into videos that are now featured on the DofHTA YouTube Channel under the Bishop Boudreaux Project playlist.

 We are now beginning the second part of our Digitizing Bishop Boudreaux project, which includes digitizing his twenty-eight cassette tapes, which he used to record his autobiography, “Memoirs of a Cajun Bishop”. These cassette tapes include Bishop Boudreaux recalling stories from his early life, his journey to become a priest, attending Vatican II, helping to form the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, meeting and singing for Pope John Paul II, and other stories from his time serving as our first Bishop, as well as his life after retirement.  

The total cost to digitize these 28 cassette tapes is $1,420.00. Please also note that in exchange for each donation of $25.00, you’ll receive a free copy of the audio CD or exclusive early access to our podcast of Bishop Boudreaux’s book on Spotify. With a donation of $50.00, we’ll include a print hardback book and an audio CD (or early access to the Bishop Boudreaux podcast). Please note you're not limited to the amounts above; we ask that you donate whatever you're comfortable with.
