Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church

Twenty-four years ago, Msgr. Fred Swenson enlisted the help of Tommy Murrel and Lonnie Richard to organize a fundraising event to build a Community Center for the parish.  They organized a committee and started the Autumn Fest, which became one of the largest fundraising events for our church.

Parishioners were torn on building a Community Center because of the high cost and debt to the church, so Msgr. Fred tabled the idea.  Sadly, our beloved pastor passed away a few years later.

The need for a Parish Community Center, however, grew stronger with each passing year.  Through negotiations and prayers, Msgr. Fred’s vision was finally realized when the Church was able to purchase a building with funds donated by our Knights of Columbus.

The building, which was once a Post Office was purchased by Church Point Bank (Currently Home Bank). The bank no longer had need for the building and negotiated a deal to sell it to OLSH.  The building was dedicated as the Msgr. Fred Swenson Community Center on September 21st of this year.

The Center will be used for the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters, Ladies Altar Society, That Man is You, ACTS, Youth and Spanish ministries, St Joseph’s Altar, socials, and funeral receptions.  He knew before we did how necessary this Community Center was for our Parish.

Through iGiveCatholic, we want to upgrade what we refer to as ice tray lights that hang low in the building, ceiling tiles, and other improvements to the Center.   Your generous donation will go towards this project.
