Breathing with Hope Again

For many years, Saint John Catholic Church was faithfully held together by the dedication of parishioners and religious who gave what they could — including a brother who served here for many years. We are deeply grateful for their presence and care.

Still, because our priests often carried responsibilities for other parishes, Saint John sometimes felt like an afterthought. The community endured, but it lacked the focused initiative to grow and flourish.

Today, that is changing. With Father Rafa’s leadership and heart, our parish is beginning to stand on its feet again. We are able once more to breathe with hope in our spirit.

Why We Need Your Help

A parish cannot be built on hope alone. We need resources to sustain the basic life of our community — keeping the lights on, maintaining our buildings, supporting our ministries, and planning for the future.

At Saint John, even during difficult times, we have continued to give. Through our food pantry, we serve our neighbors in North Charleston, ensuring that families in need are not forgotten. We pass on what little we have — because that’s who we are.

Now, we ask for your help to strengthen the foundation of this parish so we can continue to worship, to serve, and to grow.

Our Immediate Needs

• Replacing the church’s exterior heat pump ductwork

• Repairing damaged gutters on the church

• Replacing the hot water on demand system in the rectory

• Sealing the rectory basement to keep out critters

• Repairing the sidewalk in front of the rectory

• Pressure washing the church windows

• Restoring the bell tower

• Painting a guest room for visiting clergy

• Making improvements to the parish hall

These are essential projects that will ensure our church remains a warm and welcoming place of worship for generations to come.

In just four short years, Saint John Catholic Church will celebrate its 100th anniversary. We are planning to be here — strong and vibrant — when that day comes. With your support, we can begin preparing now to mark a century of faith, perseverance, and service in North Charleston.
