Saint Matthew's Catholic School

St. Matthew's Catholic School was founded in 1963 to serve as an integral part of the parish ministry in providing a Catholic education for students aged 2 through 8th grade. As a co-educational Catholic school operating under the Roman Catholic Diocese of Richmond, we welcome students from all backgrounds. An academic journey at St. Matthews begins with a Christ-centered, Catholic environment that forms the foundation of learning for all students through spiritual, academic, and physical education.

On this Giving Tuesday, we are seeking help to upgrade our preschool playground equipment to better ensure the safety and well-being of our youngest students. We are hoping to install an updated, safe, and fenced outdoor play area for our students aged 2-4. An age-appropriate playground will contribute to our toddlers' and preschoolers' foundational development as they explore the world of play. The new facilities will feature clear sightlines for faculty and staff to keep a close eye on all the children, diverse play options for each child's unique adventures, as well as updated designs to ensure child safety. A new preschool playground will give our students the ability to discover, learn, and grow in ways that are not conducive while inside the classroom. 

Our preschool playground renovation is projected to be completed in two phases. The first phase will include various play cubes and climbers, as well as a quad seesaw; whereas the second phase will incorporate a multi-sensory playground (manufacturer picture provided) that will help develop balance skills and encourage discovery amongst our students. The entire play area will be carpeted with 9" of engineered wood fiber playground mulch with a fence installed to enclose the entire playground for safety.

St. Matthew's welcomes students of all religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. Our strength lies in the fact we keep our tuition low, which allows us to welcome a diverse student population. Our student body is also made up of 26% military families. Any child in the community has an opportunity to attend our school to experience a rigorous academic curriculum along with a comprehensive leadership and character-building program.
