Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Central Texas

A nonprofit organization

Since 1961, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Central Texas has been a network of friends, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.

What sets us apart is our one-on-one, personal care for every neighbor in need we work with. Our dedicated volunteers, called Vincentians, live out their calling through their work with those struggling to make ends meet throughout our community. This is only made possible through your support today for #iGiveCatholic and Giving Tuesday!

Many of us are just one crisis away from housing instability and food insecurity. That's where the Society of St. Vincent de Paul comes in. Our assistance programs help with short-term needs while our systemic change programs address the root causes of poverty, including providing affordable medications and converting predatory high-interest loans into manageable, low-interest loans.

Last year, we accomplished:

3.2 million meals provided from the SVdP Food Pantry for 39,500 households

39,285 people served by community outreach

$27,214 in low-interest loans provided to close predatory loans

$4.2 million in financial assistance provided for homelessness prevention, including rent and utilities, to 46,411 people

This incredible impact is only possible with your help. Join us for #iGiveCatholic to support neighbors in need throughout Central Texas!

Volunteer Opportunities

We would love for you to join us in service to our neighbors in need! Below are some of our volunteer opportunities at our Austin location:

Vincentian Family Center: Vincentian Family Center volunteers can distribute assistance, including bus passes, clothing vouchers, snack packs, and household and hygiene items to neighbors in need. Responsibilities may also include stocking, inventory tasks, and other duties as assigned. Volunteers are needed Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Food Pantry: Food pantry volunteers can help neighbors fill out assistance paperwork and share boxes of groceries. May also include stocking and inventory tasks. Volunteers are needed Saturday from 8:45am to 12:30pm. Food pantry stocking is done on Thursdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Come in and help for just an hour or all day!

Essential Household and Hygiene Kit Assembly: Help assemble essential household and hygiene kits for clients in need at the Vincentian Family Center and Thrift Store. Assembly typically takes place on Thursdays and Fridays and takes approximately one hour.

Thrift Store: Thrift store volunteer assignments include greeting customers and ensuring they have a positive shopping experience, restocking and organizing merchandise, tagging items for sale, sorting donations, assisting with inventory, and assisting with floor displays. Volunteers are needed Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm.

Conference Referral Helpline: Helpline volunteers can work from home at flexible hours. This assignment involves checking voicemails from neighbors who have asked for assistance, documenting the contents of each message, and returning the call to connect each neighbor directly with the Conference closest to them.

Data Entry: Data entry volunteers can assist with updating records, filing paperwork, and developing monthly reports for client services at the Vincentian Family Center. Times needed are flexible throughout the week during business hours.
