Empowering Communities at Saint Benedict the Moor

Nestled in the vibrant Northeast section of Washington, DC, near RFK Stadium and Stadium-Armory Metro, Saint Benedict the Moor is a cherished Catholic Church with a rich history.

Our parish was established in 1946 by the Josephites, a religious order deeply committed to serving the African American community. In 1952, the present structure, a combination church/hall and rectory, was dedicated by Cardinal O'Boyle. A decade later, in 1962, a convent and school, under the care of the Oblate Sisters of Providence and dedicated lay teachers, opened their doors. In 1978, a parish center, affectionately known as the 'Imperial Room,' emerged, allowing the original church/hall structure to exclusively serve as a sanctuary for Mass.

Today, we invite you to stand with us in supporting our parish's vital mission. Your generosity goes a long way in building and strengthening our vibrant community. As we come together on this #iGiveCatholic Giving Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for choosing to 'Give Catholic' on #GivingTuesday. Your contribution transforms our ministry and breathes life into the body of Christ. Thank you for being part of our journey!
