St. Cecilia Parish was established in 1906.   The groundbreaking for our current church building was January 26, 1926 and the cornerstone was laid on Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 1926.  Our church is highlighted with beautiful mosaics and stained glass windows.  In a few short years, our church will be 100 years old.  The church's beauty is beyond comparison, however, its age is beginning to show.  Our beautiful church is in need of a new roof and tuckpointing.  Through Giving Tuesday we hope to add to our ongoing fundraising for the Church Roof Project.

For over a hundred years, St. Cecilia Parish has been serving the Carondelet Neighborhood.  The demographics of the neighborhood has changed over the years, but the purpose of the parish has always been the same, to feed the souls of those in our community.  Many people have wonderful memories of St. Cecilia.  Many have been baptized here, attended school here and been married here.  The building itself is not St. Cecilia Parish, the people who gather here are St. Cecilia Parish.  However, it is easy to see the beauty of the church building and preserving it is important.   St. Cecilia has been a safe place for people to gather during times of war, times of peace, in times of turmoil in our country or times of turmoil in their native country.   People come to St. Cecilia to be welcomed and comforted by a loving and supportive community. The church building of St. Cecilia is a cornerstone of the neighborhood and even those who are not practicing Catholics know that they are welcome any time.  We hope to continue to serve this community for a hundred more years.  Your iGive donation can help us make the repairs to ensure the future of St. Cecilia.
