St. Charles Church

A nonprofit organization

St. Charles Church was first established in 1786 by Father Charles Nerinckx. Our current church is not the original building, or the second, but is actually the third church to stand on the church property in St. Mary, KY.  It was built in 1905 and has had many renovations, updates and improvements over the years, the most recent being the replacement and update of the church's electrical system.  That effort was completed by way of last year's #igivecatholic campaign.  This year we are asking for your help in keeping our historic church building functional and to bring back a feature that has been lost....the electronic bell tolling system.

Our church's bell tower features the building's original bell from the McShane Bell Foundry, Baltimore Maryland and is dated 1907.  (The company is still in existence to this day!) You can often hear the bell ringing at the start of 10:30 Sunday mass.   Many folks may also remember an electronic tolling system was installed when the technology became available and allowed the church to play the Angelus regularly throughout the day and songs for special occasions, i.e. weddings, funerals, baptisms, etc.  This system has also been updated over the years, but has not been functional for some time as the electronics became obsolete with no way to repair the main components of the system.

We are fortunate and believe the 4 speakers located in the bell tower are still functional and do not need replacement, we are in need of the controller for the system, the “computer” itself that will provide the electronics and the software necessary to make the system work.  Fr. Scott has worked with the Verdin Company from Cincinnati, the cost of the system and installation needed is $18,000, which will provide a modern bell tolling system to serve the church and the parish for many years to come!
