ST MARGARET, QUEEN OF SCOTLAND

A nonprofit organization

St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland Catholic Church and St. Thomas the Apostle Chapel provides a welcoming atmosphere and place of worship. While St. Margaret Church received a beautiful renovation several years back, St. Thomas Chapel is in need of many updates.

St. Thomas Chapel sits on less than one acre of land in Springfield, Louisiana. The wood-framed Chapel sits on piers on the highest piece of land in the community of Springfield. Built in 1940, the Chapel serves the community of lower Livingston Parish. It is characteristic of other church structures constructed during that time period; a Gothic-revival style that mimics its mother Church of St. Margaret in Albany.

Over the last few years, our fundraising efforts have raised over $400,000.00, which was enough to secure a matching loan from the Diocese of Baton Rouge to complete the estimated $800,000.00, renovation. However, due to the rising inflation costs, we have received bids from various contractors and other suppliers totaling over $1,000,000.00 (about 60% higher than our original estimate!). While we will be scaling back, there are still some very necessary items and renovations that must happen for St. Thomas Chapel! These plans include:

  • Replace the outdoor siding with hardy board stylized to match the original architecture.
  • Replace current windows with clear, frosted glass.
  • Replace and improve lighting throughout the Chapel.
  • Replace and add additional insulation to improve efficiency.
  • Re-orient and update the sanctuary, bathroom, and sacristy to accommodate the other improvements throughout the Chapel.

We cannot complete these projects without YOUR help! Prayerfully consider making a donation and help our community continue to grow.
