St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church (Ft. Monroe)

St. Mary Star of the Sea (SMSS), located on Fort Monroe, Virginia, has a slate roof that dates back to 1903. The slate is in overall good condition, but the fasteners used to secure the slate, and many of the roof deck and fascia boards, must be replaced. Likewise, the chimney, gutters and copper ridge caps also require repairs. There have been no major failures but there is increased concern that the roof will be vulnerable to damage in a high-wind event. 

The parish has partnered with a reputable local firm that is performing repair work in phases, carefully evaluating each step to insure the best results at a practical cost. Currently, the estimated cost to complete the project is $119,128. We have raised $66,712 toward that number, which is subject to change as we enter the final stages of work.
