This year's campaign will support two projects. St. Theresa of Avila Church, our neighboring parish, was recently closed leaving several Holy Articles in need of new homes. One such article is the large statue of St. Theresa which graced the Church's facade. The statue would be a wonderful addition to St. Patrick's courtyard where it could be enjoyed by the hundreds of parishioners and friends who regularly gather there. The anticipated cost of moving and installation of the statue is $2500. In addition, we are seeking $2500 in funds from the campaign to be used to provide an ordination gift for our parishioner, Deacon Curtis Zuckerman, who will be ordained for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter in the spring of 2026.
Old St. Patrick’s Church, a stunning example of early 19th Century the arts and crafts design, is among the City's most revered historic landmarks. Standing in the heart of the New Orleans business district, it has been declared a National Historic Landmark by the Department of the Interior and harkens back to a time when the city began moving outside of its original boundaries of the French Quarter. The current structure was built in 1840 under the guidance of renowned architect James Gallier. The church is of Gothic design, with a stunning ceiling inspired by England's Exeter Cathedral. The high altar features three magnificent murals and an exquisite stained glass dome above the altar. The tower is 185 feet high, the vestibule 40 feet, the nave 85 feet, serving to draw the worshipers gaze upward toward heaven itself. Today, St. Patrick's Church is well-known for its reverent liturgy and sublime music, which serve as fitting accompaniments to its unique physical beauty.
