Mission

St. George Parish School is a welcoming, supportive, accessible community of educators and diverse families who come together with a shared sense of purpose to lead our lives as Jesus did. This vision guides us as we provide our children with strong Catholic values and a robust academic foundation.

Description

This fall St. George Parish School, located in Seattle's Beacon Hill neighborhood, celebrates its 100 school year! For over a century, our vibrant school has faithfully and rigorously educated thousands of students, many of whom were children of immigrant families or immigrants themselves. Currently, we serve 253 students from 195 unique families. We are at 94% capacity and have wait-lists for many of our classrooms. Our reputation as a strong and welcoming school in the community is well known!

St. George Parish School is a diverse community with 85% of our students self-identified as students of color. We proudly celebrate our diversity which strengthens and empower us as a community, and helps foster that "extended family" feel among students, teachers and parents. We are blessed by the heavy involvement by our parent community. In addition, many of our high school and college alumni volunteer in our classrooms, in the after-school program, or in our 5 week summer school program. They come "home" to give back to the community that was foundational for their current success. Their care and support for our current students and teachers is most telling of what the St. George experience meant to them as children.

As a Catholic school, all students from Preschool - 8th grade participate in a vast array of community service and social justice projects that exemplify our Catholic Social values. Our faith and Christian values run central to how we welcome ALL people and work together, respectfully, as brothers and sisters in support of the common good of all. We teach love of God, love of others, and love of self.

The academic program at St. George is robust. Besides core subjects, all students receive regular music, art and physical education classes, and our middle school student participate in electives like robotics, speech, yearbook, construction and design, drama, dance, financial literacy and Spanish. Our students are well-prepared for the challenges of high school. 90% of our 8th graders matriculate into Catholic or private high schools. Many with academic honors and/or scholarships. Some go on to specialized academic programs at local public high schools. A majority of our graduating students enroll in at least one honors high school course their freshman year. Most participate in at least one sport or high school club. Our students are dynamic, vibrant and fully engage in their community.

At St. George we are committed to making Catholic education accessible to all. Over 30% of St. George Parish students receive tuition assistance. Donations to GiveBIG support the school's Georgian Fund and the Sue Byrd Endowment, both of which provide tuition assistance.

After reading about St, George Parish School, we hope you see the enormous value our educational program provides students, and the benefits it brings to society

Recognition

We are recipients of various grants through the Fulcrum Foundation and its benefactors, the Garneau Nicon Family Foundation, Boeing Credit Union, Invest Ed,.
In addition, we have built strong relationships with several businesses in the community that graciously support our school's mission and events through donations of cash, products and services. Those funds help us to meet the needs of our most marginalized students and their families so that St. George experience is available TO ALL who deem it valuable, and not just for those who can afford it. We have also received matching funds through Boeing, Microsoft and Nintendo philanthropy programs and are open to more partnerships as such.

If you are a former St George Dragon, you may remember Sue Byrd, a beloved member of our community who volunteered for over 50 years in a myriad of ways to support kids. Sue never had children of her own, so she adopted a whole school! She organized CYO sports, cheered as school soccer and basketball games, created yearbooks, supervised lunch and recesses. She was a major part of so many children's lives. Many alumni come back and ask to see her "time-out log" on the playground! Consider a gift of $50, $500 or more in honor of Sue's 50-year volunteer commitment to St. George
