Parish History
The Diocese of Lincoln was established by decree of Pope Leo XIII in 1887. However, there was no official Cathedral until our Church was dedicated as the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1911. Our church remained the Cathedral for the Diocese of Lincoln until 1965. Since then, our church has been known as St. Mary Catholic Church.
Located in downtown, Lincoln, it is our mission to worship, serve, and build communion in Jesus Christ, with Mary our Mother and guide. We invite you to join us and learn about the exciting projects we are working on!
Located in Downtown Lincoln
Our 2026 Fundraising Projects Include:
1) Furnish and decorate the brand-new Mother's Room! Over the last year, Flynn Hall (the church basement) has undergone an extensive upgrade, allowing for the addition of a Mother's Room. This important space includes a sink, changing table, and a TV so that mothers may continue to participate in the Holy Mass while nursing and caring for their young children. Christ gave us His Blessed Mother, and we invite you to help furnish this space in honor of all the mothers who make up our parish community!
The Baby and Toddler Population at St. Mary is Steadily Growing!
We can't wait to have a Space for Them and Their Mother's
2) Celebrate and grow our youth ministry. We doubled our CCD enrollment, going from about 20 students in 2024 to over 40 students in 2025! Additionally, in the last four years, we have welcomed 8 high school students into the Faith at the Easter Vigil or at other times in the year! It is clear that we need more resources to invest in our children as they prepare to enter into adulthood and receive the life God is inviting them to. Please help us provide each child and family with more opportunities to worship, serve, and build Communion in Jesus Christ, with Mary, Our Mother and Guide.
We are Thankful for the Children who attend CCD!
We are excited to welcome Several High Schoolers into the Church!
3) Provide for our fourth priest: The Diocese of Lincoln has a close friendship with the Archdiocese of Colombo, in Sri Lanka. Thanks to this friendship, St. Mary has just welcomed Fr. Jayakody Arachchinge Don Joseph Francis as assistant pastor! Please keep Fr. Jayakody in your prayers, and we ask that you consider assisting us as we adjust our budget to accommodate another priest's salary and housing. Praise be Jesus Christ, now and forever!
Please see Bishop Conley's welcome to Fr. Jayakody and his brother priests from Sri Lanka! ↓
4) Repair the exterior brick. We need to repair the church's exterior brick and mortar to stop further damage to the church's interior, caused by trapped moisture and water entry. Once the church's exterior is restored and sealed, we can begin our restoration work in the sanctuary. The North and West exteriors have already been repaired, and all that remains is the South and East exteriors. The total cost of this work will be $1,221,542

5) Give general support for our parish. Our downtown location allows our parish to represent the Catholic Church in the political, entertainment, business, homeless, and hospitality districts of Lincoln. Christ is present here, and it is the Virgin Mary's desire to bring all people to her Son. Please accompany us in ministering to all those entrusted to our care in downtown Lincoln.
