St. Mary's Cathedral (Grand Island)

St. Mary’s Cathedral in Grand Island, Nebraska is seeking donations for the upgrade of the control system for the elevator in our parish hall.

One of the biggest struggles for parishes is the unexpected costs associated with building maintenance. Due to the age of the elevator, the current control system has reached the end of its life, and replacement parts are no longer available.

Just as the brain sends signals throughout the body for movement, the controller does the same for an elevator system. An elevator control system is responsible for the operation, speed regulation, opening and closing of doors, and safety systems of an elevator. Of all the systems in an elevator, the control system is the most important.

One of the benefits of replacing the current controller is the addition of technology advancements that were not previously available. This includes smart sensors, enhanced safety features, alerts that indicate when a component shows signs of wear, and programmable settings.

The estimated replacement cost of the elevator controller is over $11,000.
