Greetings in Christ Risen!
On behalf of the parishioners at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I warmly welcome your visit to our #iGiveCatholic page. Together, we strive to live out our most fundamental call to be Missionary Disciples who invite you to Encounter Christ and Live as Disciples.
With life centered in the love of God, revealed most perfectly in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we wholeheartedly accept his
~ command to love as he has loved us (John 15:17),
~ mandate to serve as he has served us (John 13:15), and
~ commission to make Disciples as he has made of us (Matthew 28:19).
All proceeds from this year’s #iGiveCatholic will benefit two of our Outreach Ministries, more information on which can be found below.
Night Shelter Ministry
This year marks over 30 years of the Basilica’s participation in Night Shelter support and the last 20 years at what is now named the Bashor Men’s Homeless Shelter (at Central Presbyterian Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church). Funding ($6,000 est.) is needed to pay for dinner, breakfast, and lunch meals for the 65 shelter guests during the six nights Basilica volunteers are staffing the shelter over the winter months. Want to learn more? Eager to volunteer? Contact Bob Balke at rrbalke@gmail.com or call / text 404-788-3151.

Thursday Sack Lunch for people experiencing homelessness:
Now in its 21st year, every Wednesday, volunteers gather at Sacred Heart to prepare 60 sack lunches. On Thursday mornings, lunches are distributed to anyone in need, which includes families and single men and women. Lunch consists of water, a sandwich, cookies, chips, a grain/energy bar, and various fruits. The cost per week is $200 or $10,400 per year. Feel called to help!! Contribute to #GivingTuesday and/or contact Deacon Marino Gonzalez at mgonzalez@sacredheartatlanta.org or 404-974-2235.
Thank you for your participation in #iGiveCatholic!
Yours in Christ Risen,
Very Rev. John Howren, V.F.
History of Sacred Heart – so much love for the Lord received and shared. We all feel great pride in this: our presence here since 1880. It rightly makes us proud, and of course we all have a responsibility to uphold our history & maintain our buildings which are physical evidence of it all. So, yes…we do have a duty to maintain all that has brought this parish church forth to where we are today!
BUILDING ON HISTORY
But none of it will really matter if we are most focused on our past.
We must be more focused on right now, and how it is we move forward!
Our history would be nothing more than a footnote on a Wikipedia page unless we’re invested in living out that history in our present with the same fervor our predecessors going back to 1880 had because like they did, we, you and me, right now, have a future to move into.
