Greetings in Christ Risen!

On behalf of the parishioners at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, I warmly welcome your visit to our #iGiveCatholic page.

Together, we strive to live out our most fundamental call to be Missionary Disciples who invite you to Encounter Christ and Live as Disciples.

With life centered in the love of God, revealed most perfectly in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we wholeheartedly accept

  • Jesus' command to love as he has loved us (John 15:17),
  • His mandate to serve as he has served us (John 13:15),  and
  • His commission to make Disciples as he has made of us (Matthew 28:19).

In 2024, through your generous donations on Giving Tuesday, we raised $18,100 (110% of our goal) to fund our parish Night Shelter and Sack Lunch Ministries throughout the year. This year, we have included our summer Habitat build, coordinated by the Knights of Columbus, and increased our fundraising goal by just $1.00 to $18,101. I've included for you additional information on all three ministries below.

Thank you for your participation in 2025 #iGiveCatholic!

Yours in Christ Risen,
Very Rev. John Howren, V.F.

Night Shelter Ministry

2025  marks over 31 years of the Basilica’s participation in Night Shelter support and the last 20 years at what is now named the Bashor Men’s Homeless Shelter (at Central Presbyterian Church and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church). Funding ($6,000 est.) is needed to cover meals for the 65 shelter guests during the six nights that Basilica volunteers staff the shelter over the winter months.

Thursday Sack Lunch for people experiencing homelessness

Now in its 22nd year, volunteers gather every Wednesday at Sacred Heart to prepare 60 sack lunches. On Thursday mornings, lunches are distributed to anyone in need, which includes families and single men and women. Lunch consists of water, a sandwich, cookies, chips, a grain/energy bar, and various fruits. The cost per week is $200 or $10,400 per year.

Habitat for Humanity

Since 1994, parishioners and members of the Basilica Council of the Knights of Columbus have been participating in regular Habitat for Humanity builds, having completed 26 builds, helping expand affordable home ownership through contributions of time, talent, and treasure. The cost to participate in a build is $8600.00.
