The Ragin’ Cajun Catholics student ministry at Our Lady of Wisdom has been a source of Christ’s light on UL Lafayette’s campus for over 100 years! In friendship, students join the life of our unique parish at UL Lafayette for a special season of formation. During their time in college, they have a home away from home where they are received openly, challenged and encouraged in their faith, and sent back into the world as disciples of Jesus Christ. 124 students attended Encounter Retreat this fall at Stillwater in Abbeville. Of the retreatants, 57 were male - more men than have ever come to Encounter. We are seeing a more balanced ratio of women to men in many aspects of our ministry thanks to the work of our priests, campus ministers, and FOCUS team, and the goodness of God!
Your gifts support active student participation at the Catholic Student Center. Currently, there are 72 ongoing small groups and Bible Studies - up from 55 last fall! Students serve at Mass, lead Bible studies, plan retreats, and lead John15 small groups for freshmen. They participate as leaders in parish youth groups across the diocese and in pro-life advocacy. Those with musical skills are learning liturgical music to serve with their gifts at Mass. And most importantly, students spend quality time with the Lord in the church at our daily holy hour and daily Mass.
The ministry is flourishing, and students rise in challenging circumstances to serve the Lord and each other. Your gift to the Ragin’ Cajun Catholics will benefit the numerous pathways that lead young people to Christ through our Catholic Student Ministry.
