Wofford/Spartanburg Colleges Newman Ministry

Welcome to our donation page! The Wofford Catholic Newman Ministry's ultimate goal is communion with Jesus Christ and to evangelize all of the college students in Spartanburg. We set out to achieve this goal through prayer and personal invitations for students to encounter Christ in community with other students. The best and most effective way to do this is through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which is offered at our Newman Center, but we also offer Bible Studies, opportunities for prayer and formation, and even in social events like game nights. 

Our goal for this year's campaign is to fundraise for special projects: starting with covering the cost for lodging for students who are going to SEEK in Columbus (a HUGE gathering of Catholic college students where they will hear from some of the best Catholic speakers in the country -- most notably -- Father Mike Schmitz) as well as assisting with registration costs. Anything we raise beyond that will go to special projects like retreats, bringing in speakers, hopefully service projects and, if the students are interested, perhaps a mission trip.

A quick word on SEEK, as admittedly, relatively few students (four to be exact) will be the direct beneficiaries of our initial project with the donations. I have never seen anything like it so far as making an immediate difference in the lives of college students. It was at a SEEK Conference that my relationship with Jesus really came alive. I am just one of many people who came back changed.

Now, with campus ministry, most of the ministry is not done by me, but by my students. It starts with a few students who really allow themselves to be changed by the Holy Spirit, and they go out and invite their friends into deeper relationships with God.

To ignite even a few students (especially in a ministry as small as ours) can be all the difference in the world. It can be the difference of Sainthood and mediocrity--not just for those who go to SEEK, but for those whom they may affect when they return.
