Jesus said, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations…” (Mt 28:19). Today’s Catholic schools are the current bearers of a long and rich tradition that can be traced right back to the early centuries of the Church’s existence. That tradition, the teaching mission of the church, comes from Christ Himself. Catholic education remains critically important in the formation of the human person by teaching how to live well now so as to be able to live with God for all eternity.
The Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo spans 9 counties in southwest Michigan and has 19 Catholic schools educating students in preschool-grade 12 in mind, body, and spirit. Faith, knowledge, and service are the pillars of Catholic education. In all three of those areas, we strive to be dynamic, distinctive and devoted.
The assist the Catholic Schools in the Diocese, the Office of Schools provides guidance, support and leadership in the following areas by:
Faith Formation & Catholic Identity
- Providing spiritual formation opportunities for principals, teachers, and staff.
- Ensuring curriculum and school culture reflect Catholic teaching.
- Supporting liturgical celebrations, retreats, and service initiatives.
Academic Excellence & Curriculum
- Offering professional development for teachers and administrators.
- Reviewing and aligning curriculum with both diocesan and state standards.
- Sharing best practices and resources to enhance instruction.
Leadership Development
- Training and mentoring principals and emerging school leaders.
- Guiding schools through leadership transitions.
Operational & Administrative Support
- Assisting with school accreditation and compliance requirements.
- Offering guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices.
Advancement & Enrollment
- Supporting schools with enrollment growth strategies and retention efforts.
- Providing tools, training, and resources for marketing and recruitment.
- Assisting in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement to strengthen financial sustainability.
To help us carry on this mission, we ask for your support. The three areas of focus for our office are to be able to provide direct tuition assistance funds for schools to distribute to families, fund the training and development of Catechists for our Cathechesis of the Good Shepherd Program, and to be able to provide professional development for teachers in both their area of teachign and their faith so they can be strong witnesses for their students.
