As you can see from our pictures our Church walls are in need of restoration. St. Joseph Calasanctius Church
Early last September, many members of the parish got together and determined that of the many possible projects needed in the church, the most apparent was the repairing of the plaster interior walls. Some damage had occurred years ago before the roof repairs were complete, and some damage was due to continued moisture infiltrating through the basement foundation walls. Knowing that it would take money to make the repairs that could be addressed right away, the members formed a committee that started planning a fundraising event. With the event proceeds going toward the repair of the church interior walls, a number of interesting festival names were suggested – ‘Let’s Get Plastered’ and ‘Help Us Get Plastered’ were among them. Ultimately, the festival planned for the fall of 2025 was simply termed the ‘Plaster Project”. The date selected for the event was November 15th.
Following many ‘after Mass’ meetings, plans for the festival quickly took shape. The festival committee wanted the event to include many fun and entertaining activities that the members of the parish and the community could enjoy, so in addition to the traditional main raffle and 50/50 raffle, the festival included a bake sale, basket raffle, bingo, a cupcake pass, ‘turkey’ bowling, and of course, delicious food. Adding a unique touch, a local musician volunteered to perform throughout the evening.
The Fall Fest 2025 Plaster Project officially started at 6:00pm on November 15th. However, the doors were opened much earlier for guests to tour the festival that was about to take place. The fundraising event was well attended and at evening end it appeared a great success by the smiles on the faces of the visiting guests. It must be noted, that the success of the festival was only made possible through the donations from so many local businesses, the generous donations of parishioners supplying wonderful baked goods and raffle gift baskets, and the seemingly tireless volunteers who put it all together.
At this time, it is difficult to quantify the financial success of the fundraiser because many of the expenses incurred in setting up the event are still being gathered. If we are fortunate, we will have generated enough money to take care of our immediate repairs. This is not the end of the project, however, since much work is still needed to correct the water infiltration problems needed before we can finish all the plaster repairs.
Any support you may offer (prayers, money, encouragement) toward our ‘Plaster Project’ is sincerely appreciated. As mentioned before, this is one of many projects that we enthusiastically hope to tackle in maintaining our 100 year old church building and keeping it a beautiful place in which we can worship Our Lord.
