St Rose of Lima Catholic Church (Mt. Vernon)

St. Rose of Lima in Mt. Vernon is located just west of the Cheney Lake west entrance in rural Cheney, KS. Our parish has a rich history; our original church was built in 1911, and in 2021 we completed our new church. Since then, our parish family has nearly doubled in size. By God’s grace and the generosity of our community, we were able to pay off our loan to the diocese in less than four years.

Now, we are beginning our Capital Campaign to build a much-needed Discipleship Center. This comes at the perfect time, as this year marks the last we can use our small, aging schoolhouse. With failing infrastructure, an HVAC system beyond repair, and unreliable electrical service that often blows fuses, the building can no longer safely support our needs.

Currently, we have more than 130 children enrolled in our youth programs, and without proper classrooms, we risk losing the ability to continue offering these vital ministries. The new Discipleship Center will provide flexible, multi-purpose classrooms for faith formation and other ministries, as well as rentable space for parishioners. It will also include a larger zero-entry food pantry, a spacious parish hall for dances and community events, a much bigger kitchen, and so much more.
